The Ogun State Police Command has sounded a grave warning to young female adults, cautioning them against the perils of social media engagement, particularly on hookup apps.

This alert follows disturbing reports of a 32-year-old suspected ritual killer, Adebayo Olamide Azeez, who confessed to luring and murdering seven women through the dating app “MyChat.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, conveyed the cautionary message via her official Facebook page this Friday, emphasizing the urgency for vigilance in online interactions.

“The Ogun State Police Command is using this avenue to warn young female adults to be careful about their social media engagement especially HOOKUP APPS . It has led many to their untimely death”.

Adebayo Azeez, paraded by Ogun State Police Commissioner, Biodun Alamutu in Abeokuta on Thursday, detailed how he exploited the dating app to ensnare unsuspecting victims. A member of a ritualist gang, he revealed that the lure of hook-ups served as a facade for his gruesome intentions.

Operating in collaboration with accomplice Moses Abidemi Awuraji, Adebayo disclosed that negotiations on the app would lead to the selection of victims. The gruesome acts took place at Igbo Olomi in Atan-Ota, Ado-Odo Ota local government area, where the victims were brutally murdered inside the home of Abidemi, assisted by his wife, Mariam.

Adebayo’s shocking admission indicated that he executed these heinous acts for a meager sum, ranging from N30,000 to N40,000. The Ogun State Police Command underscores the need for heightened caution among young women using social media, urging them to be wary of potential dangers lurking behind seemingly harmless interactions on dating apps.

He said, “They will call me that they need body parts, I will go on the app and chat the ladies for hookup. I don’t know the ladies before, we don’t have any conversation before, I only talk to them on the app.

“I ask if they are available and we negotiate on the amount they want to collect, when we reach an agreement, I will send my address to them and they will come over to me at Atan-Ota.

“I will pick them up and call Moses Abidemi Awuraji that they are around, I will then take them to Moses Abidemi Awuraji house in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota and inside his sitting room we will kill them.

“Abidemi’s wife (Awuraji Mariam) will pin their legs down while I strangle them.

“I joined the gang in September in 2023 and we have killed seven ladies. These are the ladies that I brought to the house that we killed.

“I don’t know what they use the corpses of the ladies for, my job is just to source for the ladies and bring them in. They don’t usually tell me the amount they will give, at times, they will pay me N30, 000, other times, they gave me N40, 000.

“I can’t say no to them whenever they ask me to bring the ladies. I don’t know who they sell the body parts to and I don’t ask them about it, my own is just to source the ladies and collect my money”, he added.
