The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, praised the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as a man of great courage. Akeredolu passed away in Germany on December 27, 2023, after battling a prolonged illness. His body was brought back to the state on Wednesday as per the arranged burial plans.

Justice Odusola delivered his remarks during a Special Court Session held at the state High Court headquarters in Akure, the capital city. The session was convened to honor the former governor, drawing attendance from his family, friends, as well as professional and political associates.

Reflecting on Akeredolu’s legacy, Justice Odusola remarked, “Arakunrin (Akeredolu) was a brave leader, confronting the significant security challenges in the state with remarkable courage, setting a national example in the process.” He further highlighted Akeredolu’s humility and determination, noting, “He remained remarkably grounded, a quality that, in our society where flattery prevails, could be considered a vulnerability.”

Justice Odusola also commended Akeredolu’s commitment to his promises, citing his endeavor to establish a state-of-the-art facility for the High Court. Despite facing obstacles due to his health and bureaucratic challenges, Akeredolu’s dedication was unwavering. Justice Odusola emphasized Akeredolu’s respect for the independence of the judiciary, recalling his assurance that judicial decisions should be made without influence. “He understood and upheld the principles of separation of powers, not just in words but in deeds,” Justice Odusola concluded, paying tribute to the late governor’s integrity and commitment to democratic values.
