An Area Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced Ishaku Saidu, 25, to six months imprisonment for stealing various household items worth N2.3 million.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.

He also gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine and asked him to pay the complainant a compensation of N2,396,000 or face 12 months imprisonment in default.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo Jos Police Station on September 7, by one Simi Gyang.

She said the accused person broke into her house and stole various items such as a smart TV, home theatre, window curtains, blender, pumping machine, among others.

The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation, the accused confessed to have committed the offence.

The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
