The Late Iyalode of Egba and Yorubaland, Chief Mrs Alaba Lawson instructed that there should be no drumming during her burial, hence there will be no form of gathering for reception during the burial of the late educationist slated for Friday, December 8.
The Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the burial of the late amazon and Proprietress of Alaba Lawson Group of Schools, Abeokuta, Chief Sanya Abiola, disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing held at the residence of the deceased in Quarry Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
Chief Abiola said that the essence of the briefing was to acquaint the members of the public of the week-long burial plans of the foremost community leader, defender of women’s rights and first female National President of National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) slated for between December 1and Friday, December 8.
While answering questions from newsmen at the event, on the omission of venue for reception which was conspicuosly missing as part of the burial activities, Chief Abiola said that “one of the wishes of the Late Iyalode Alaba Lawson is that there should be no drumming during her burial.
“This is however not say that people will not be given what to eat but it would have been packaged and handed over to the people, that’s how it has been arranged and planned”.
The Chairman also said that, though the state government had pledged a befitting burial for the late entrepreneur and elder states woman, but the committee is yet to receive anything from the government as at the time of the press briefing on Monday afternoon.
He said that the burial committee has approved Friday, December 1 to Wednesday, December 6 as days dedicated to various interest groups, associations, professional bodies among others to come around and celebrate the impactful life and times of the foremost community leader who died on October 28, at 72.
Chief Abiola said that the final burial will kicked off on Thursday, December 7 with Christian Wake/Night of Tributes at Marquee Event Centre, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Abeokuta as well as the funeral service on Friday, December 8, at Cathedral of St James’ Anglican Church, Idi Ape, Abeokuta are strictly by invitation.
The interment is also said to be strictly for the family of the deceased while the burial service shall be beamed live by both the television and radio stations of Ogun State government on its various platforms.
The committee lauded Gov Dapo Abiodun for his pledge to support the family of the deceased in according Chief Alaba Lawson a befitting burial.
