The Government of Ekiti State, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has completed several significant projects to enhance power supply in the state. These projects include the construction of a 19km long 33KV line from the 132KV TCN Sub-Station at Omosanjana to Erijiyan, as well as the rehabilitation of the 33KV line to Ikogosi-Ekiti. The Governor officially commissioned these projects today.

The initiative stemmed from prolonged power shortages that various Ekiti communities endured for periods ranging from 6 to 15 years. The absence of a reliable power supply significantly impeded development, impacting places like the Ikogosi Warm Spring and Resorts and the Gossy Bottling Company. The 140MVA transformer at the 132KV TCN Sub-Station at Omisanjana was also underutilised due to the lack of an energy transportation corridor.

To address these issues and fully utilize the 140KV supply to the Sub-Station, as well as provide a lasting solution to the electricity supply challenges in the industrial and tourism zone of Ikogosi-Ipole-Iloro, Governor Oyebanji’s administration constructed a 5km long 33KV line from Omisanjana to Baptist High School in Ado Ekiti, linking to the Ilawe line. This effort also included the construction of a 14km long 33KV line from Ilawe to Erijiyan Ekiti.

Additionally, an existing 33KV line from Erijiyan to the Ikogosi industrial and tourism zone underwent rehabilitation to energise Ikogosi town, the resort, Gossy Water Company, and the Ipole-Iloro line. These measures have fully harnessed the previously underutilised 140KV supply from the national grid, resulting in profitable use.

As a result of these completed projects, communities in the targeted zone are now benefiting from improved power supply. This development not only enhances the standard of living but also brings significant economic benefits to residents and the state as a whole.

Improved electricity supply remains a vital component of Governor Oyebanji’s development agenda, playing a central role in his administration’s industrialisation goals and economic development plans.
