Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedum Orji, has been impeached on Tuesday morning.
Although the specific reasons for the impeachment remains unclear, it was gathered that about 18 of the 24-member House signed for the Speaker’s impeachment, while four refused to sign.
The House had also reportedly elected Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, (Umuahia East constituency), as the new speaker.
According to reports, operatives of the Nigerian Police Force have taken over the entrance gate of the State Assembly to prevent any possible break down of law and order.
