A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has set aside President Muhammadu Buhari’s removal of Senator Ifeanyi Ararume as the Chairman of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Justice Inyang Ekwo who passed the judgment on Tuesday, held that Buhari acted outside his powers and illegally in the way he removed Ararume after using his name to register NNPCL.

According to Ekwo, such brazen act cannot stand in the face of the law.

The judge consequently made an order reinstating Ararume as Non Executive Chairman of the NNPC Ltd Board with immediate effect.

Additionally, the Court held that Ararume was entitled to damages over the unlawful manner he was removed and therefore awarded damages in the sum of N5 billion.
