Democratic Forum, a political group under the auspices of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Ogun on Monday, 16th May, 2022 empowered eighteen (18) women and members with cash for economic independence and self-sufficiency.

The empowerment scheme which is part of the core mandate of the group was held at the sideline of its Weekly Meeting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital

According to one of the group’s Coordinator, Okunowo Olamide Afolasade,“Women, as we all know, constitute a significant percentage of this group.“Today is a significant step forward as we continue to provide economic support of vulnerable, indigent residents and members whose livelihoods have been decimated by the effects of the economic downtown”.

She assured that Democratic Forum through its empowerment scheme would continue in its efforts to be more impactful, especially in alleviating the effects of poverty in the society.

She said that this would be achieved through the provision of critical financial and other support that would enable a significant number of the youths, including unemployed graduates and vulnerable women fulfil their entrepreneurial dreams.

She equally urged members and residents to obtain their voters card so as not to be disenfranchised in the upcoming elections and to also work towards the development of the party.

While speaking with youths at the event, Media Practisioner and Motivational Speaker, Adejola Adeyemi Crown also enjoined youths on the important of time management, stated that although the country is faced with different issues, but encourage youths to be good managers of time by engaging themselves with soft skills.

He said, “There are lots of skills, both technical and soft skills that you need to thrive in Nigeria. From communications, sales, marketing, leadership, technology skills, creativity, problem-solving, to computer skills, the list goes on and on”.

But as I interact with many young people in my work and study successful youth who have scaled the ‘hurdles of Nigeria’, I’ve discovered that apart from the numerous skills (soft or hard), three fundamental mindsets/attitudes are critical for any young Nigerian to thrive; Deams & Aspiration, Taking Action and Continuous Improvement & Learning.

“Vision without action is merely a dream, Action without vision just passes the time, Vision with action can change the world”.

“To change your world, you must ACT now! Dream big but start. This year, take the corresponding action on your goals, dreams and aspirations as Nigerian youths have to take their destiny into their own hands if they want to achieve greatness and make a better Nigeria”.

“At the end, Nigeria will be great. It all balls down to what we do with our today, the decisions we make, and the actions we take as youths”, he concluded.
