Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has tasked all and sundry to work towards breaking all forms of discrimination against women and increasing their representation in governance.

Salako-Oyedele who stated this in Ijebu-Ode during the 2022 ‘International Women’s Day (IWD) organised by City of Knowledge Academy with the theme, “Break the Bias”, noted that a gender-equal world, free of biases against women requires a collective responsibility of everyone.

She added that discrimination against women had existed for so long and would not disappear by wishful thinking, waving a magic wand, or celebrating IWD, but rather, through a general change in attitude and mindset.

“Imagine a gender-equal world, free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality and collectively we can all Break the Bias. Similarly, stereotypical gender roles, such as men being the ‘provider’ or ‘protector’ of the family, puts an unnecessary burden on men, which can positively be shared in an equal partnership with their female counterparts”, the Deputy Governor opined.

Also speaking, Chairman, Access Bank, Dr. (Mrs.) Josephine Awosika said there must be equity in gender, noting that most advanced countries have better women representations, which had helped in developing their countries.

Awosika noted that society is lagging because it deprives its women of gender variety, adding that gender equality goes beyond building women, but it is about building the nation.
