The Lagos State Government has declared its readiness to host the world as the 7th Access Bank/Lagos City Marathon holds on Saturday, 12th February, 2022.

The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr. Sola Aiyepeku, said all hands are on deck to ensure that all participants, both local and foreign, enjoy the tournament, stressing that the LSSC is working in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free World Athletics event.

Aiyepeku said that the organisers have the full support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who is expected to participate in the one-day marathon, adding that the race will be massive and better packaged than the previous editions.

His words: “I can tell you that we are ready for the 7th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon. Despite the fact that we are still having issues with the global COVID-19 pandemic, we have put all necessary machinery in place to hold the marathon in compliance with all health safety measures”.

“All relevant agencies of the Lagos State Government have been drafted to ensure that the marathon is held hitch-free”, Aiyepeku assured.

The Executive Chairman said the premises of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, venue of the registration centre for the event, has been a beehive of activities as many Nigerian participants have been trooping in to register and pick necessary souvenirs for their participation in the competition.

According to him, unlike the Y2021 edition Marathon which featured 300 athletes in the 42 km race, with other members of the public joining the virtual 10 km race on the FiNerge app, the Y2022 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is open to all members of the public.
