…says ICT remains modern fancy for global coordination
Osun State Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi, on Tuesday said the Adegboyega Oyetola-led administration was totally committed to technology-driven governance as a way of engendering effective deliveries.
He explained that the advent of Information Communication Technology has changed the whole dynamics of human existence, including public administration.
According to him, ICT as a new normal has put a serious challenge to primordial administrative bottlenecks to pave way for more inclusive governance and greater productivity.
The Deputy Governor, made the remarks at the 14TH INTERNATIONAL MULTI-CONFERENCE ON ICT APPLICATIONS FOR TEACHING, RESEARCH & ADMINISTRATION, held at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife.
He described ICT as a modern fancy and a potential instrument for global coordination and openess, adding that it’s impacts on teaching, research and administration can never be over-emphasised.
He, therefore, commended the organizer of the initiative for sustaining the tempo of the programme for the past years and for providing veritable platform for digital revolution for sustainable development in Osun and it’s environs.
Alabi enunciated various dimensional digital initiatives in the state, adding that the government in the state has made implementation of most of it’s policies more digitalized for efficiency.
The Deputy Governor added that ICT has tremendously helped in the area of food security and the fight against insurgency, banditry and other violent crimes especially in Africa.
“The adoption of Information and Communication Technologies in teaching, research and administration has become a phenomenon through different tools. These tools are mainly based on the individual’s logical assessment of how various applications increase his/her effectiveness and efficiency in work and provide ease in communication with peers.
“Looking at the importance of education as the back bone of every nation, the application of ICT in modern teaching has changed thye dynamics and strengthened the sector the more with special focus on creation of high quality and skilled human resources to fulfil the
necessities of growing global economy, with effective instrument for proper coordination and
evaluation.
“In a critical term, ICT has changed the degree of functionality of teaching and education globally with the help of digital data, its storage,
retrieval, manipulation analysis and transmission.
“Also, ICT has successfully enhanced accessibility to higher education, skills and knowledge to work for the progress and welfare of the human
being.
“With the help of ICT, a teacher can learn modern methods of teaching. He can work with the students on various project and assignments. It also helps in providing
teaching contents, home works and others. In addition to this, the use of Power Point presentations,
can help the students to understand complex processes and theories
“With the use of Information and Communication Technologies, Researchers have tremendously improved on both qualitative and quantitative model researches, thereby increasing the quality of data generated as well as the spread of coverage, as online data collection and surveys have become very easy.
In the same vein and in tandem with the theme of my presentation, which is : ” OSUN AND CREATIVITY IN GOVERNANCE; THE PLACE OF DIGITAL EVOLUTION”, it may interest you to know that our amiable Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola is keen on efficiency and effectiveness in governance, which ultimately demands the application of ICT, hence, the resolve at the inception of our administration to project E-governance”, Alabi submitted.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eyitayo Ogunbodede, in his remarks lauded the Deputy Governor for what he described as age-long partnership awith the University and consistent assistance in all ramifications.
He also appreciated the governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola and his government for progressive synergy in many critical sectors.
