Osun govt organises Essay Competition to mark Nigeria’s 61st independence

Governor, State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, says his administration is investing so much in the education of the young ones to prepare them for enormous task of leadership in the future.

He added that qualitative education would also equip them to compete favourably in the global knowledge economy.

Governor Oyetola, stated this on Friday at the prize presentation to the winners of the second edition of the Independence Day Essay Competition organized by the State Government.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi , hinted that the main objective of the Essay Competition among the Students of Secondary Schools and Institutions of Higher Learning was to build the next generation of excellent leadership.

Oyetola, who congratulated the winners of the Competition said the initiative was another manifestation of his administration’s conviction and commitment to qualitative education.

He assured that his administration would continue to prioritize education and to also encourage and motivate the young people through such competition in order to train their mind towards acquiring capacities for healthy engagement.

He said, “Since assumption of office, our administration has prioritized provision of qualitative education for our young people. This is because we know that building a sustainably prosperous State requires strategic investment in the young people in a manner that prepares them for the reality of the keenly competitive global knowledge economy.

“This is the least we owe our young people, and we shall not disappoint them”.

At the end of the competition, Adeyemo Victor Ayodeji, from Odo-Otin Local Government, a medical student of BOWEN University, Iwo, came first and was rewarded with a brand new Toyota Corolla 2004 model with a cash price of #500,000 by the state government and some other gift items

Ayoola Oluwagbemiga from Ile-Ife, a student of the University of Ibadan studying Law came second and went home with a cash price of#300,000 as well as a laptop and some other gift items while Adewuyi Stella from Irepodun, another Law student from Adeleke University, Ede, came third and smiled home with a cash price of#200,000, a laptop and other gift items.
