Oyo State Police command has issued a strong warning to cultists in the state to shelve their plan on any 8/8 celebration in the state.

The Police command issued the warning in response to information it received about plans by cultists to celebrate the day with violence by rival gangs.

Ngozi Onadeko, the state Commissioner of Police said the Command would not condone hoodlums acting against the law.

Onadeko’s warning was conveyed in a statement by the PPRO, DSP Adewale Osifeso.

The statement noted that there will be an increase in intelligence, operational and tactical apparatus, through visible patrols and intelligence-driven stop-and-search across the state.

The CP also cautioned parents to warn their wards against any unlawful gathering or assembly intended to breach the peace of the state.

Onadeko told hoteliers and proprietors of lounges and other recreational facilities not to consent to the use of their facilities or property to aid cult-related activities, as they would be liable for prosecution.

Ngozi urged Oyo residents to be law-abiding and vigilant enough to report any suspicious activity to the police command or nearest police formation.
