Gov Makinde Approves N2.5m Compensation for Slain Amotekun Officers

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the sum of N2.5 million as compensation to the relatives of slain operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun.

The Governor made this approval known earlier today during the Town-hall meeting, with critical stakeholders on the 2022 budget, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital city.

During the meeting which had in attendance the deputy governor, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Olubamiwo Adeosun, the Head of Service, Ololade Agboola and others, the Governor ordered a one-minute silence for the departed corps members who are 7 in number and pledged to ensure the wellness of the relatives of the deceased operatives.

Governor Makinde further implored all to be security-conscious and report suspicious movements to appropriate authorities for necessary action while also restating his determined efforts to deploy resources for growth and development of Oyo state.

The Governor also affirmed his administration’s intention to increase performance of budget before the end of 2021 and also assured of deploying resources, for continous growth and development of Oyo state, highlighting successes of his four cardinal points.

In her address during the programme, which also recorded attendance of Royal Fathers, religious leaders, Traders and artisans, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Economic planning, Mofoluke Adebiyi, stressed the importance of citizens participation in governing processes, for openness and transparency.

Adebiyi noted that a functional democracy requires informed citizenry, empowered members of the fourth-estate of the realm alongside general participation for oppeness and transparency, for governance-issues.

While stressing the importance of inclusion, Mofoluke Adebiyi, noted that open-government initiative strengthens civic voices, demonstrate responsive Governance systems and promote interest of all citizens.

In their clamours, Royal-Fathers, Religious leaders, Chairmen of Local Governments, Traders, Artisans, gender advocates and Youths, requested for more oriented-policies for betterment and development of all.

They also made case for programmes to address youths restiveness.
