The Management of Federal Medical Center, Idi – Aba, Abeokuta has condemned the ugly acts of assault and outright destruction of hospital properties by patients and their relatives, the management also assured that everything possible would be done to ensure that culprits are made to face the consequences of their actions.
This was made known by the Acting Medical Director, Dr. Fidelis Ojeblenu during a press conference held at the center on Tuesday, while condemning continuous threats on FMC healthcare team most especially the doctors and nurses, and destruction of hospital properties by members of the public.
Ojeblenu said, “we have overhauled the security architecture of the hospital in readiness to forestall further occurrences. Plain clothed security agents are on ground to apprehend future culprits”.
“We also use this opportunity to further express our heartfelt concerns and love to our healthcare workers, the nurses and doctors who are the victims of the recent incidents, and indeed all the healthcare team who are wounded and pained. We stand by you in your efforts at rendering essential life – saving services to humanity”, he added.
Recalled that there was a physical attack by a patient’s relatives on one of the medical personnel at the center on July 6 following the death of the patient as this ugly incident has made the Doctors and Nurses at the center to shutdown nigh duties as a way to protest the alleged incessant physical assault on their colleagues.
Dr. Ojeblenu while assuring the general public that the center is committed to caring for the health of the community through efficient services called on the larger community, well-meaning citizens, traditional rulers and leaders to join hands in curtailing these dastardly acts, as the center would remain committed to caring for the health of the community through efficient, effective and equitable delivery of preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative services.
He encouraged the public to always channel perceived ill-treatment and dissatisfaction to the right avenues, rather than resulting into physical and verbal assaults on healthcare workers as there are lawful avenues for resolution of perceived ill – treatment or complaints by patients and their relatives, without taking laws into their hands.
