.. As Osun gets 3.2m treated mosquito nets as intervention
Governor, State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has reiterated the resolve of his administration to prioritise quality and accessible health delivery amongst residents of the state.
He asserted that the health sector would continue to enjoy cardinal consideration at every point of policy formulation and implementation of the administration.
Oyetola, disclosed this on Tuesday, while receiving a team from the Federal Ministry of Health, under the auspices on National Malaria Elimination Programme.
The team came in to the state, alongside other international partners, working to eradicate Malaria and several ailments perculiar to Sub-saharan Africa.
Oyetola, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, noted that the nation’s profile on malaria is alarming, as it kills about four hundred and five thousand annually in the country, mostly pregnant women and children.
He, therefore, assured the team of government’s support in the distribution of free insecticide treated mosquito nets to the people across the state, in line with the their mandate, for the purpose of stamping out malaria completely in the state.
According to him, this explains government’s huge investments in the health sector, including the renovation and revitalisation of 332 focal Primary Health care centres across the state.
He stated”, Our administration has been working assidiously and actively to eliminate Malaria in our dear state, and guarantee healthy living among the people.
” It is very interesting to note that, accessible and affordable health care delivery is the bedrock of our development plan and cornerstone of our social contract with the people.
” As a government, we are going to support all efforts to stamp out Malaria in Osun, with the distribution and conscious usage of the treated mosquito nets, for the protection of our children and pregnant women, and indeed, every citizen of the State of Osun.
In his remarks, the leader of the team, Dr Audu Bala, who represented the Minister of Health, said the rationale behind their visit to the state was to embark on aggressive campaign and household mobilisation for the distribution of long lasting Insecticide Nets (LLIN’s) to the people of the state.
He revealed that Osun has been selected to continue receiving support from Global Funds for the next three years (2021-2023) towards eliminating Malaria.
Bala also lauded the government of Osun for making the requisite counterpart funds for the programme promptly available .
” The 2018-2020 support for Malaria is focusing a 12 -priority states, including Osun.
“Meanwhile, one of the interventions under the grant planned for Osun is to distribute long lasting insecticidal nets to all households”, Bala said.
