Pension Law: Ogun Assembly Apologizes, Appeal To Labour

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, has again apologised to the labour unions in the State on the speedy passage of the State Pension Amendment Law, saying it was borne out of the need to acede to the request of the executive arm through the Assembly’s approval to access N20bn bond to defray outstanding gratuities being owed retired workers since 2012.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo in a statement signed today further apologized to the organised labour for the method applied in carrying out the amendment, stating that the lawmakers were truly persuaded by the presentation of the Executive that the amendment if done within a time would grant the State unhindered access to the fund.

“I am light hearted that the Governor, who sent the bill to the House is yet to accent to the bill in line with his personally pronounced promise to me that government will engage Labour Unions and reach an agreement with them before anything will be done, so the 2014 law remains the extant Law on Pension in Ogun State today.

Let me reiterate here that the House under my leadership will not do anything against the interest of the Labour Unions nor allow the rights and privileges of the workforce to be tampered upon”, Oluomo stated.

Assuring the labour Unions of the ninth Assembly’s commitment towards considering and upholding the interest, rights and privileges of the work force, the Speaker appealed to them to return to negotiation table with government with a view to bringing sustain already established industrial harmony that would bring peace and progress to the State.
