The current impasse between the workers of Ogun state and the Government is due to the negligence on the part of the Government in terms of the backlog of payment of outstanding allowances of workers in the state.

This assertion was made by the state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole on a current affairs program, Oju Abe on Splash FM, Abeokuta yesterday.

Comrade Bankole revealed that the last time the state government conducted a promotion exercise was in 2017 and also the last time it paid leave allowances to workers was in the year 2015.

He also highlighted other entitlements that the Government had fallen short of which has led to the current warning strike which started yesterday.

He decried the fact that since they started their agitations, the state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has not addressed them in person.

He noted that the Union made spirited efforts to meet with the State Government in order to forestall the strike but the government was not forthcoming in reaching a compromise, hence the need for the commencement of the warning strike.

He disclosed that though the backlog goes beyond the present administration, the Union had met with the representatives of Government who promised to offset some of the arrears and that has not been fulfilled.

The Ogun State Government is yet to pay the new minimum wage that was agreed by the Federal Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress.
