The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it had recovered from the Ondo fire tragedy that gutted its office ahead of the October-10 Governorship election in the state.

INEC Chair, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the disclosure Friday during an interactive session with stakeholders and Civil Society Organisations convened by the National Peace Committee chaired by former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

While assuring the public that it would not postpone the Ondo state Governorship election scheduled for the October as it had in 2016, the Commission said all measures had been put in place to ensure that similar fire incident did not reoccur in Edo state.

INEC stated that the Ondo state Governorship election poll would hold as planned, despite destruction of smart card readers.

INEC offices were previously on fire in Abuja, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Rivers, Plateau and now Ondo.
