The Ogun State House of Assembly has confirmed the extension of 18 Transition Chairmen of the Local Government Councils effective from 19th July, 2020, while the confirmation of the Chairman of Remo North, Biodun Somoye and his Ogun Waterside counterpart, Femi Onanuga were stepped down.
The extension followed the presentation of the report of Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs by the Chairman, Hon. Akeem Balogun at the Plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-mosan.
Balogun, who reeled out the names of members who were successfully cleared subsequently moved the motion for the adoption of the report, seconded by Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji, and unanimously supported by all the lawmakers through a voice vote.
The report partly reads, “the Committee however, did not recommend the extension of tenure for the Transition Committee Chairmen of Remo North, Hon. Biodun Somoye and Ogun Waterside Local Government, Comrade Femi Onanuga due to the fact that petitions received from the respective Local Government councils are still receiving the attention of the House”.
“The Committee therefore recommended the extension of the tenure of eighteen (18) transition Chairmen Committees and committee members of Remo North and Ogun Waterside Local Government, having been found eligible and suitable”, the report stated.
Responding, Speaker Oluomo directed the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Heads of Local Government Government Administration (HOLGA) to implement the Assembly’s decision, while the Vice Chairmen of the two affected councils should take over the administration as Acting Chairman in their respective councils.
Oluomo also invited the two unconfirmed Chairmen to appear before the lawmakers on Tuesday, 11th of August 2020 for an interface with the lawmakers on their case.
In another development, the Assembly Committee on Lands, Housing and Justice as well as Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions have presented their report in respect of the petition for the stoppage of further destruction of houses and properties along Lusada-Igbesa Road.
The report which was presented by the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Damilola Soneye recommended that all land owners, sharing boundaries with the Ogun-Guandong Free Trade Zone must engage the State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC) for proper documentation and ratification of their lands.
It directed that compensation should be paid to the owners of the remaining land, whose landed properties were acquired, acknowledging that compensation was paid on 650 hectares earlier acquired.
