Ogun Assembly Tasks Ministry On Investment Opportunities

Ogun State House of Assembly has challeged the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to set machineries in motion towards strengthening the potentials of the State to retain its leading position in the comity of States in the nation by leveraging on the State’s rich potentials to attract more local and foreign investments.

The Chairman, House Committee on Industry, Trade and Investment, Hon. Kemi Oduwole, gave the charge while examining the 2020 budget of the Ministry as presented by the State Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Oduwole in company of other committee members stated that it was important for the Ministry to provide more support to small and medium scale business owners, adding that more revenue was needed to deliver on the developmental programmes of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led- administration.

Earlier in her remarks, Longe noted that the ministry within the period under review generated a total budget of N585.8m, having curbed illegal mining and mineral exploitation, nothing that new agents were being engaged on road haulage with 30 new toll points.

In a related development, the members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Industry, Trade and Investments have lauded the financial ingenuity of the State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC) towards the provision of affordable housing scheme with a view to addressing the huge societal housing deficit.

Stressing the importance of housing facility to humanity, the House Committee Chairman, Hon. Oduwole in company of Honourables Kunle Sobukanla, Ademuyiwa Adeyemi and Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye lauded the initiatives of the Corporation at ensuring an improved revenue generation, with a task on them to further improve on their activities.

Earlier, the Special Adviser and Managing Director, OPIC, Arc. Biodun Fari-Arole, stated that a total of 31 units of 5-bedroom luxury villa were under construction at the OPIC King’s Court estate in Abeokuta with necessary details to enable convenience of the allottees.

Arole added that a total of N797.9m was generated into government’s coffers through contractors registration and tender fees, sales of application forms and proceeds from consultancy services and dividends from investments amongst other earnings within the period under review.
