The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has lauded the Federal Government’s response in halting the proposed increase in the electricity tariff, saying such increase could only be implemented if all electricity consumers were metered.

Oluomo stated this while addressing members of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) during a peaceful demonstration against the proposed tariff increase and the need to improve on power supply by the Electricity Distribution Companies.

According to the Speaker, the residents of the State were reasonable people, who could afford to pay for the value of regular power supply to them if metered, promising that the Assembly would convey their yearnings to the National Assembly as a matter of urgency.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of CDHR, Comrade Yinka Folarin, stated that electricity consumers could no longer withstand the outrageous estimated billing system and epileptic power supply, with a demand for improved service delivery from the DISCOs to their consumers.

Meanwhile, the State House of Assembly has called on the Management of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in the State to as a matter of urgency embark on rehabilitation and repairs of Federal Roads within the corridors of the State.

Speaker Oluomo made the call while responding to the submissions of members including the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, Honourables Ganiyu Oyedeji and Atinuke Bello, who intimated the Assembly on the deplorable state of roads in their respective constituencies under Personal Explanation.

Oluomo explained that the swift intervention from the Federal Agency, which would complement the efforts of the State Public Works Agency in applying palliatives on the roads would further alleviate the suffering of commuters in the affected roads.
