A woman, identified as Abigel Bankole, has reportedly caused the death of her 65-year-old neighbor, Oladega Morenike, during a heated altercation in Ipokia, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 4:20 p.m. when a disagreement between the two escalated into a physical confrontation. Bankole allegedly pushed Morenike, causing her to hit her head against a wall. The elderly woman collapsed and was later pronounced dead.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta. She revealed that the case was brought to the police’s attention by one of the deceased’s children, Ibrahim Oladega.

“On November 21, 2024, at about 6:20 p.m., Ibrahim Oladega, a resident of Isunba Street in Ipokia, reported at the police station that his mother had an altercation with a neighbor, Abigel Bankole, earlier that day. The fight escalated, leading to the deceased being pushed, hitting her head on a wall, and collapsing,” Odutola said.

Police detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim lying lifeless on her back. Odutola added, “A photograph was taken, and her body was transported to the General Hospital in Ipokia, where a doctor confirmed her death. The body was later moved to the mortuary at General Hospital, Ilaro, for an autopsy.”

The suspect, however, fled the scene after the tragic incident. “The suspect is currently at large, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend her,” Odutola noted.

She assured that preliminary investigations are ongoing and that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation.
