It turns out that detergents can be quite handy outside the laundry room

Of course, we use detergent for washing clothes. So, it’s logical that we store detergent where we use it most, near the washing machine. But it doesn’t hurt to also keep an extra bottle of detergent in your sink cabinet. As it turns out, there are six situations when detergent can come in handy in the kitchen! Here are six reasons to keep detergent in your kitchen cupboard.

1. You can use detergent as a hand soap

Have you run out of hand soap and you forgot to put it on your shopping list? Then detergent offers a solution. A mix of detergent and water can serve as a good alternative to hand soap. Fill an empty bottle of hand soap with one part detergent and one part water, gently shake the mixture and you’re done!

2. Make an extra-strong hand cleaner

Do you have stubborn dirt on your hands that only comes off with great effort? Think of black grease after working on your car or bicycle, or paint residue. Use a mixture of a teaspoon of detergent and a teaspoon of vegetable oil. All the dirt on your hands will disappear like snow in the sun.

3. You can use detergent to make an all-purpose cleaner

Mix 2 tablespoons of detergent per liter of water, and use the solution to combat grease and grime all over your kitchen. For example, add this mixture to a handy spray bottle and you can use your homemade all-purpose cleaner daily to clean all kinds of surfaces in your home. In addition, the detergent also has a pleasant scent, so your house will also smell fragrant after a major cleaning.

4. Use it to mop floors

Pour half a cap of detergent into a bucket filled with warm water and use the solution to mop your kitchen floors. This probably would not be the first thing you think of to mop your floors with, but trust us; your floor will shine like never before! In addition, your house will also smell delicious. So, it’s win-win.

5. Use it to pretreat stains

Oops, busy cooking and red sauce has splashed on your favorite white blouse? If you have a small bottle of detergent in the kitchen, you can pretreat this stain quickly and easily. By dabbing some liquid detergent directly on the stain, you ensure that the clothing does not fully absorb the stain. Then throw the clothes in the laundry and it’s as if nothing ever happened!

6. You can use it for a blocked drain

Detergent can help to unclog a blocked drain. This is worth trying before calling an expensive plumber. Pour half a cup of detergent down the drain, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with boiling water. Slightly less stubborn dirt will have dissolved, so the hot water should clear the drain.
