…As mob sets car ablaze
Toyota Corolla was reportedly set ablaze by an angry mob following its involvement in an accident that killed a school teacher, identified as Okunola K.
The incident, which was confirmed by the Divisional Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Adigun Daniel, occurred Tuesday in Ode-Omu, Ayedaade local government area of the state.
It was gathered that the vehicle hit the said teacher of St. Michael’s Grammar School, Obada, Ode-Omu along Gbongan-Osogbo road leading to the victim’s death on the spot.
An eye witness, Laolu Adeola, disclosed that the teacher after closing from school purchased cassava peel while waiting to board a motorcycle to his Oogi home when the incident occurred.
While confirming the teacher’s death, Daniel said the car driver eloped from the scene as the mob appeared uncontrollable.
He said: “Efforts to bring the situation under control were futile as it was at the market square. The mob set the vehicle ablaze and it was burnt beyond recognition.
“The driver of the vehicle lost control of the car and veered off the road towards the motorcycle, which was about to carry the victim. The motorcyclist escaped by jumping off.
“The mob set the vehicle on fire immediately the victim was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident.”
4 die in Ibadan crash
Meanwhile, it was a gory sight yesterday as the mingled parts of human bodies littered the ground at the scene of an accident involving a motorbike along mile 110 roundabout before Ring Road Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
It was gathered that four people were involved in the accident.
While some motorists said the bike could have collided with an articulated truck resulting in such magnitude of damage, others were shocked at what could have happened to the victims.
One of the victims’ identity card suggested that he must have worked as a security guard and was possibly returning from night duty.
There was no information from the Oyo State Police command as they were busy managing the explosion that rocked Ibadan.
