In the early hours of Monday, tragedy struck in the Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki, when a 48-year-old man, identified as Okafor, was allegedly stabbed to death by a female sex worker he had invited to his residence.
The fatal incident reportedly occurred around 5:32 a.m., leaving the community in shock.
According to reports, the deceased’s friend was alerted to the attack by another acquaintance who had learned of the incident.
Responding quickly to the distressing news, the Lagos State Police Command was notified, and investigations began.
Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the grim occurrence. “The suspect, Joy Kelvin, allegedly stabbed Okafor during their time together overnight,” he stated.
Mr. Hundeyin further revealed that, following the assault, the victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Marina, Lagos. “Unfortunately, the medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival,” he explained.
Police reports indicate that detectives from the Ilasan Division responded to the incident by 7:20 a.m., arriving at the scene to gather evidence, including photographs, and conduct preliminary investigations.
“The deceased’s body has been evacuated to the General Hospital Morgue in Yaba, where it is being preserved for an autopsy,” the police spokesperson said.
He also confirmed that the suspect, Joy Kelvin, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. “Efforts are being made to notify the family of the deceased, and a full investigation is underway to uncover all the details surrounding this tragic event,” Hundeyin added.
