The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 45-year-old man, identified as Kazeem, who allegedly jumped into a river and drowned after consuming suspected hard drugs, believed to be Colorado.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
According to Mr. Hundeyin, the Alagbado Police Division received information about the incident at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
An informant reported that Kazeem, after taking the drugs, became uncontrollable and dashed towards the river at Odo Tente, located at the boundary between Lagos and Ogun states.
“The deceased, under the influence of suspected hard drugs, ran uncontrollably and jumped into the river,” Hundeyin stated. Despite efforts, he drowned before any help could be rendered.
Police detectives from the division arrived at the scene, photographed the area, and retrieved the body.
When contacted, Kazeem’s father requested that the body be buried by the riverbank immediately in accordance with their local customs.
The Lagos Police have begun an investigation into the matter to uncover more details surrounding the death.
