39 Shops Go Up in Flames as Fire Hits Abuja’s Kaura Market

A block of 39 open shops at the Kaura Modern market in Abuja was on Friday night burnt, following an electrical spark which triggered a fire.

It was gathered that the fire which started at about 11pm, raged on till about 2am on Saturday when a combined team of firefighters from the Federal Capital Territory FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service FFS were able to extinguish it.

When contacted, the spokesman of the FCT Fire Service, MT Ibrahim confirmed the incident.

He listed items lost to include foodstuffs, generators, refrigerators fruits, umbrellas, electrical appliances, household items and parts of the roof.

On the cause of fire, he said; “electrical spark on a power changeover installed in one of the shops. The presence of a generator with PMS inside the shop where the fire started aggravated the fire.

“The fire was put under control by the combined teams of FCT Fire Service and Federal Fire Service”.

He said the Acting Director of FCT Fire Service, Engr. Adebayo Zacchaeus, commended the firefighters for their efforts.
