A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 37-year-old man, Udoka Onumara, over alleged murder.

The accused, whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge of murder.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that the deceased was trying to separate a fight between the accused and another person and got hit on the head with an iron rod by the accused, which resulted in his death two days later.

“My Lord, the accused was not satisfied with how the deceased was separating the fight; he picked an iron rod and struck the deceased on his head.

“He slumped and was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he was in a coma for two days before he was pronounced dead,” she said.

The plea of the accused was, however, not taken.

Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere ordered that the accused be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending receipt of legal advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The offence contravened Section 222 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015. (Revised)

The case was then adjourned until April 10 for further hearing.
