The Kano State Police Command has recovered 126 stolen mobile phones from 26 suspected phone snatchers and thieves in the state.
The operation, which took place between September 1 and September 12, 2024, aimed to address ongoing issues with mobile phone theft in Kano.
Haruna Kiyawa, the Command’s spokesperson, stated that these efforts were in response to directives from Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who instructed all Police Commands and Formations to intensify their efforts against crime.
“The operation was conducted following the directives to dominate public spaces and curb all forms of criminality”, He added.
Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, led a strategic meeting with all tactical units, focusing on eliminating remnants of thuggery, armed robbery, and mobile phone snatching.
“Consequently, a series of targeted operations were carried out, leading to the arrest of 26 suspects and the recovery of 126 stolen mobile phones,” Kiyawa noted.
In addition to the phones, the police recovered 21 port-wine injections, 20 sachets of diazepam tablets, 600 exol tablets, three parcels and other large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, two cutlasses, two scissors, one long sword, and two computer laptops.
