The Lagos State Police Command has detained Chibunnma Chimelie, a 25-year-old man, for allegedly stabbing his 68-year-old father to death.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday night around 10:00 p.m. in the Isolo area of Lagos State.
Confirming the event to journalists on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the crime was reported by the suspect’s brother.
He recounted how the brother was alerted by a neighbor who informed him of a violent altercation between the suspect and their father.
According to Hundeyin, “The complainant said that he received a phone call from his father’s neighbor, that his father was having a misunderstanding with the suspect, who lives with his father in the same house. He rushed down to his father’s house, where he met his lifeless body in a pool of blood.”
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Aswani Police Divisional Station immediately moved to the scene and arrested the suspect. A blood-stained knife was found near the victim’s body, which was photographed as part of the evidence collection process. The police rushed the victim to the General Hospital in Isolo, where medical personnel confirmed that he was dead.
SP Hundeyin added, “The corpse has been deposited at General Hospital Mortuary, Isolo. The suspect confessed to the crime.”
The police have launched a thorough investigation to uncover the full details surrounding the fatal confrontation.
