A grassroot mobilization group, Democratic Forum, has advised electorates to channel their voting strength towards electing credible, trustworthy and dedicated candidates that will address the challenges affecting human and national development.
The Convener of Democratic Forum, Omo’ba Sodrudeen Ayodeji, handed the advice in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Friday, during former inauguration of the group, and public sensitisation / voters education awareness seminar for its members on the 2023 general elections.
The programme was themed, “Grassroots Voters Education: A Pathway To 2033 General Elections”, Omo’ba Sodrudeen Ayodeji reiterated the need for voters to prioritize their interest as well as what would be beneficial to them and the common good of the nation before casting votes for such individual.
The Convener called on voters in the country to rather focus on choosing solutions-oriented candidates, who would tackle the economic, security and other challenges of the country for the benefit of all citizens.
Speaking further while addressing hundreds of members, he reassured members of the group of his dedication and commitment towards ensuring improved lives and continuous promotion of human development.
He however promised to further give priority to youth and women development, by providing soft skills to young graduates and undergraduate so as to ameliorate the current economic impact on them.
He said, “Let me use this opportunity to thank you all for your dedication and commitment towards this forum since it was flagged-off”
I want you all to know that the forum has since inception gave priority to our women and youths, both in the formal and informal sector, I must say that we’ll continue to do our best to make life easier following the current situation of the country”.
“Within our capacity, we’ll provide scholarship programmes for our youths that’ll live to go to school, while we’ll also provide soft skills for those in the informal sector of the economy “.
“As we all know that this is another election time where different political candidates across party lines will be approaching us for our votes, we need to ensure that we conduct integrity tests for all candidates and make them accountable to us as electorates”.
“This time around me must not get it wrong as any wrong choice of leader may cause us another years of economic hardship as individuals and as a nation “.
“I am urging you to look forward to vote for dedicated, trustworthy and accountable candidates expected to bring dividends of democracy to all and sundry “.
“It is time to know the importance of voting and the need to vote right, we must not waste our votes”, he added.
On her part, the Coordinator of the group, Olamide Okunowo, commended members for their resilience and dedication over the years and charged them to be good ambassadors of the forum.
She stressed further that more should be expected from the forum in respect of empowerment programmes, grants, training and education, among others.
She said the group would continue to deliver on its aims and objectives, even beyond the general elections.
Also present at the event was Adeboye Muyideen, Atinuke Dimeji (Bajio), Mariam Otun, Shodehinde Abosede, among other important dignitaries.
