At least 16 individuals have tragically lost their lives in a devastating auto crash that occurred on Tuesday at Njaba Bridge in the Njaba local government area of Imo State.

The bridge, located on the Owerri-Orlu Expressway, is notorious for its narrow edges and has been the site of several fatal accidents in the past.

Eyewitnesses reported that a commercial vehicle lost control, crashing through the railings and plunging into the river below.

The chaos that ensued, compounded by the cramped seating arrangement within the bus, hindered any possibility of escape for the passengers.

Rescue efforts were hampered by the sheer number of casualties; bystanders who rushed to the scene found many passengers lifeless in the aftermath.

The grim discovery was made as public-spirited individuals attempted to carry out rescue operations.

As of now, the Imo State Police Command has not officially confirmed the incident. However, distraught relatives, unable to reach their loved ones, have gathered at the site in a desperate search for their missing family members.
